We have had a fun occurence in our house this summer. After a little lull of a few years, Legos are back!! As Dave put it, "G" boys have been playing with Legos for about 35 years so it's about time Joshua got into the mix.
He's played with Legos now and then--especially when the big boys are building--but hasn't had much real interest in them until this summer.
This summer things changed. He started wanting to get the huge tub of Legos out to build, he looked at the new lego sets online, and he spent a lot of time in the Lego store at the mall, dreaming....
He got a couple of Star Wars Lego sets for his birthday this year and that did it--he was hooked.
The Lego store in the mall has a fun promotion. Every month they give away an exclusive set to build at the store and keep. We just found out about it and decided it would be a fun thing to do on a Tuesday evening. The event was to run from 5-7. I figured we'd go closer to 5 because although they were supposed to have around 250 sets, I didn't want to take the chance. We arrived at the mall at 4:45. I had to return a couple things, we did a little shopping, then headed over to the Lego store at 5:30. THE PLACE WAS PACKED!!! There were even 20 or so kids sitting outside the store building on the floor. Who would have known that on a Tuesday night hundreds of people would flock to the mall to get a little Lego lobster? To make a long story short, after two people
gave up (can you imagine??) we got the second-to-last set and the fun began.
Here is Joshua getting ready to start:

We spoke to the guy who was running the event and learned that next month we had better be there no later than 4:45 to get in line. They went through all of their sets in 10 minutes!
One other note: we found out about a group of Lego lovers who call themselves AFOLs. That stands for Adult Fans of Legos. Know anyone who might be interested? I have a couple in mind....
