We arrived in the early morning just as the sun came up. 
It was a very foggy morning, which meant that all the rolling hills and valleys looked magical with trails of most snaking through them. After a long and mostly Un-restful plan ride, the view out the windows heightened the excitement for a certain young man.
After clearing customs and waiting for our luggage and animals, we were finally free!
We set out to make our first days as exciting as possible, and we even managed to beat the jet-lag with no problem! The animals were another story...

We decided to kick off our first weekend in grand style and took a drive up the Mosel River to the village of Cochem-a gorgeous setting with an impressive castle overlooking the river. We wanted the boy to get a good taste of all the great things Germany had to offer. 
Not the least of which is Spaghetti Eis!
His first taste had him hooked!
We went to a falconry demonstration at the castle, which was all in German but we figured out a lot of it.
No, not a frog. A lion with his helmet and visor pulled down. :)
We got to take a tour of the castle and learned all kinds of things about the construction and architecture of the various rooms.

And afterwards we attended the "Knight's Meal" where we sat in a long hall and were served several courses of traditional medieval foods in the tradition medieval way. (No utensils!) It was great fun. We were the only Americans at the meal and we were provided translations sheets so we'd know what was going on. We also had some friendly Germans seated next to us who gladly filled in anything we still didn't get.
And when it was over we headed home, satisfied that our first weekend in Germany would be the start of some pretty great adventures.

Welcome to your new, beautiful home!!! Oh friend, it's all breathtaking! Our whole family sure misses Germany, and I'm excited to read along with your new adventures there. I can see the joy and thrill in Joshua's eyes and what an incredible 1st weekend!!! Praying for you all tonight!
