Christmas Eve gifts are the best

On December 23, 2014, I was at the PX picking up some last minute things for Christmas. Just as I got in line, I received a text that said, "Rachael's water broke!" and so began a long period of waiting and texting and checking and praying.

On December 24, Christmas Eve, at 3:09 am EST, Fox William Gercken entered the world measuring 19 1/2 inches and weighing a tiny 5 lbs, 11oz.

Our lives (and this blog) are changed forever. Who could have ever prepared me for the overwhelming love and instant adoration I would feel at the very first sight of this little tiny person? 

I've not touched his teeny toes or smoothed his (abundant!) hair or smelled his newborn baby breath yet, but every bit of my being loves him as if I had born him myself.

My son has a son. My heart is full.

 And my grandson has a pretty great mama.
