Christmas Market mania

We had just a few days before Christmas so we had to get moving quickly if we wanted to go visit Christmas markets! We chose two to see that weekend-a medieval market in Esslingen, which is on the other side of Stuttgart, and the market in Heidelberg, which had the added bonus of outdoor ice skating and the beautiful castle.

Enjoy the pictures-
First up, Esslingen.

The boys played a game where they had to throw little steel balls and try to knock eggs of their perch on stumps.  It was hard! They also tried archery, which they both rock at. :) The prizes were little polished stones...

Lots of cool things to shop for

So many delicious foods on a stick!

And warm Kinder Punsch is a must...

Joshua ran into a little bit of trouble.

Heidelberg was next. It was a smaller market-actually 3 or 4 small markets, supposedly, in the old part of the city. It was very pretty and very crowded.

The kids skated on an outdoor rink-that had never seen a Zamboni. ;) It was a little bit of a challenge for them! The setting was gorgeous. The Soldier and I enjoyed warm drinks while we watched them navigate the bumpy ice and crazy other skaters...
