We have a playlist we use every road trip. It's called "road trip." I should call it "enjoy these moments" or "every second counts" or something like that. I love it when the four of us are in the car together. We hop in, crank up the stereo, and start singing as soon as we hit the interstate. Or Autobahn, as the case was in the picture above.
Our playlist includes a couple songs from the Narnia soundtrack and at least one song from Lord of the Rings. It includes some country songs with "Carolina" as the theme (Mayberry, Carolina, Wagon Wheel, etc), a sentimental favorite called "Somewhere Only We Know", and the staple of all road trip songs, Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." That one gets the stereo up a little louder and we all belt it out at the tops of our lungs.
I have been known to tear up a time or two on some of the songs. Because I know how precious those times together are and how infrequent they have become...
There's another country song that goes:
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are the good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
I miss when they were little and cuddled up on the couch with me. I miss cheering them on in their sports from the sidelines. I miss all six of us gathered around the table playing Settlers. I miss seeing them bent over their schoolbooks at the table. And one day I'll miss road trips with these three...

First, Ohhhhh those sweet newborn baby pictures of your little guy! Eek! I couldn't get enough of looking at them. Such precious moments my friend... and I lived far from one Grammy growing up and close to another. They were both, are both, VERY important women in my life. I have learned BUCKETS FULL from them and love them to pieces! I know you will be "huge" in your grandkids lives (near or far). What a heritage they have already!
ReplyDeleteAnd, we must make a road-trip play-list now. Yeppers, it's the little things for sure.
Thank you as always for sharing your heart, your prayers, the great and the hard. I sure wish we lived closer. I would really like to talk with you in person today. So thankful for you! Auf wiedersehen for now!
